Former UT Arlington pitcher Dillon Gee recently completed a two-month winter league season in Puerto Rico and finished as one of the top performers. Gee, a right-handed pitcher who was drafted by the New York Mets (21st round) after his junior season at UT Arlington in 2007, pitched for Leones de Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League from November to January, where recorded a perfect 4-0 record with a 2.22 earned run average with 43 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched. UT Arlington sophomore outfielder Michael Choice has been selected to the 2009 Preseason Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List. The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player.

UT Arlington head baseball coach Darin Thomas announced Thursday that eight student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent and will play baseball for the Mavericks beginning in the 2010 season. The signing class includes five high school prospects and three junior-college student-athletes. All eight of the Mavericks early signees hail from the state of Texas.
