ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington senior designated hitter Danny Slinkman has been named to the Capital One/Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team. Slinkman, an Arlington native majoring in exercise science, received his third SLC honor this season, after being named a Second Team Pre-Season All-SLC selection and by picking up Third Team All-Conference honors following the regular season.
Slinkman finished his senior campaign ranking 40th in the nation in on-base percentage (.497), which led the Mavericks this season. Slinkman was one of three UTA players who ranked in the Southland Conference Top 10 batting leaders. The 6-foot-2 switch hitter batted .370 with 29 runs scored, 15 doubles, three home runs and 47 RBI.
Twice Slinkman tallied a career-high seven-game hitting streak as a senior, and he was among team leaders posting 17 multi-hit games in 2008. As a junior, Slinkman batted .333 and tied for the team lead with 28 RBI while being named Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference.
Overall, the Southland Conference recognized 11 seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and one graduate in its yearly All-Academic Team.
