CAREY PLACES SEVENTH IN LONG JUMP TO LEAD MAVS AT NCAA MIDWEST REGIONAL

Campos runs personal best in 800-meters

LINCOLN, Neb. - Senior Quinchun Carey placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 24-7 (7.49m) to highlight opening-day action for the UT Arlington men's track & field team at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday.

Sophomore Jasmine Walls placed 13th in the women's 200-meter event with a time of 23.75, while posting a time of 11.95 in the 100-meters.

Senior Jarid Vaughan placed 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.52, while freshman Coredero Gray came in 21st with a time of 10.76. Gray ran the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.65, good enough for 25th. Junior Eddie Beckwith finished 15th in the 400-meters with a time of 47.61.

Junior Idilio Campos posted a personal best with a time of 1:50.43 for the 800-meter run, but missed advancing to Saturday's final by one one-hundredth of a second. Air Forces' Kevin Hawkins edged Campos out for the eighth spot in the finals with a time of 1:50.42.

Action on the second day of the NCAA Midwest Regional will kickoff at 1 p.m. with the hammer throw. UTA men's track and field athletes will be competing in the pole vault and triple jump in the field and in the 4x400-meter relay on the track on Saturday.
